Mobile technology is constantly evolving and improving, but it can also be expensive and complex to manage. Whether you are developing, deploying, or using mobile apps, devices, or networks, you need problem solving skills to reduce costs and optimize performance. In this article, we will explore some ways you can apply problem solving skills to various aspects of mobile technology.
The first step in any problem solving process is to identify the problem clearly and accurately. This means you need to gather relevant information, analyze the data, and define the root cause of the issue. For example, if you are developing a mobile app, you might want to use analytics tools to track user behavior, feedback, and errors. If you are using a mobile device, you might want to check the battery usage, storage space, and network connection. If you are managing a mobile network, you might want to monitor the traffic, security, and reliability.

Mobile technologies, in their ever-evolving landscape, often present challenges that require effective problem-solving. The journey of cost reduction involves a systematic exploration of the development, implementation, and utilization phases. Understanding the root cause is the initiation point. to find the reason for the increase in the costs. Development costs can be curtailed by optimizing coding processes and embracing efficient tools. Implementation costs are controlled through streamlined project management practices and agile methodologies. Utilization costs are managed by ensuring optimal resource use and analyzing usage patterns.

Most important part for any successful strategy execution is to identify the problem and able to specifically quote it i.e understanding the symptoms, going in deep with root cause analysis of those symptoms and able to understand the root cause. eg. Our website leads are falling is a general statement. While this is a specific problem statement- Our website leads are falling despite increased number of website hits means customer able to reach to our website but then drop off without sharing his/her details which is due to many ads on website, immediate asking of customer details and content being very general. Same is for mobile technology- like major problem customers are facing is phone addiction, loss of focus etc. what to do for it?

The next step is to generate possible solutions or alternatives to the problem. This means you need to use your creativity, logic, and research skills to come up with different options. You can use various techniques, such as brainstorming, mind mapping, or prototyping, to generate ideas. For example, if you are developing a mobile app, you might want to test different features, designs, or platforms. If you are using a mobile device, you might want to compare different models, plans, or accessories. If you are managing a mobile network, you might want to explore different providers, technologies, or configurations.

Once Problem is identified example website customer leads fall then alternatives to be found out like- 1. Can we ask details after few seconds customer is on website or once he is going to click the close button. 2. Can we reduce our contact details field to one field -email id 3. Can we give some freebie for customer to give his her contact details. 4. Can we make our website content more relevant and personalized to the customer. This should be a laundry list of alternatives which needs to be ranked once all listed down. Same is for Mobile technology where we have to see what are the alternatives to make a distraction free smartphone - minimum notifications, blocking spam calls, hands free operations etc.

Once the root cause analysis has helped identify various types of costs and reasons leading to higher-costs, problem solving techniques like Cost-benefit Analysis ,Resource Scaling, going with alternatives like Serverless architecture, opting for database optimization and controlling and monitoring through Alerts, refactoring for reducing redundancies : going with cloud-based services to reduce the load on mobile devices, implementing data compression, ensuring code transparency with user Feedback analytics by investing in cost-effective contracts and custom pricing while focusing on knowledge and Skills development to ensure ROI: maximum benefits on feature/services and long-term performance.
The third step is to evaluate the pros and cons of each alternative and choose the best one. This means you need to use your critical thinking, decision making, and communication skills to weigh the costs and benefits of each option. You can use various criteria, such as feasibility, effectiveness, efficiency, or sustainability, to evaluate alternatives. For example, if you are developing a mobile app, you might want to consider the user experience, functionality, compatibility, or scalability. If you are using a mobile device, you might want to consider the performance, durability, security, or usability. If you are managing a mobile network, you might want to consider the speed, coverage, quality, or cost.

Consider prioritizing the proposed solutions that help make potential cost savings, improve feature functioning and feasibility, impact the user experience positively and overall improve the mobile technology performance. Keep tracking the KPIs and consider opting for Cost Optimization tools for cutting down the processes leading to overspending. Ex: Energy efficient designs help practice optimizing power consumption ensuring extended battery life.

Evaluating alternatives is paramount. It demands critical thinking, decision-making, and communication skills. Criteria like cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability should guide the assessment. For example, in mobile app development, prioritize cost-efficient approaches while maintaining user experience and functionality. When managing mobile networks, consider cost-saving measures without compromising speed, coverage, or quality. This systematic evaluation helps identify and implement cost-effective solutions, aligning with the goal of optimizing expenses in mobile technology.
The fourth step is to implement the chosen solution and monitor the results. This means you need to use your planning, execution, and evaluation skills to put the solution into action and measure the outcomes. You can use various tools, such as project management software, testing frameworks, or feedback mechanisms, to implement the solution. For example, if you are developing a mobile app, you might want to use agile methods, beta testing, or user reviews. If you are using a mobile device, you might want to use backup systems, maintenance routines, or troubleshooting guides. If you are managing a mobile network, you might want to use network management software, performance indicators, or customer surveys.

Implementing and executing the efficiency measure may include code optimization, caching for faster data retrieval to lower server load, automating the routine tasks to cut down on the manual labor costs or risk of human errors.
The final step is to learn from the experience and improve your problem solving skills. This means you need to use your reflection, learning, and adaptation skills to identify what worked and what didn't, and how you can do better next time. You can use various methods, such as feedback loops, lessons learned, or best practices, to learn from the experience. For example, if you are developing a mobile app, you might want to use analytics, feedback, or updates. If you are using a mobile device, you might want to use tips, tutorials, or upgrades. If you are managing a mobile network, you might want to use reports, audits, or recommendations.

Yes. This article is also best summed up by what I was recently teaching: The Engineering Design Cycle. Start quick and disposable. Cycle up to "Insanely Great". Yes, you are right. You will look much better to your superiors working hard as you can right now. Right up until the point they realize you were satiating your ego and not the most efficient spend of development resources, and hand you that notice that says "It's not you, it's me and goodbye". Your choice, my experience.

Being mindful about the user experience by avoiding measures that may negatively impact the quality of the service, data speed or user interface experience is important. While marketing with a knack can empower the audience and nostalgic content can always win the crowds, consider surveys and feedback loops to keep learning and improving.
